So I've been reading the book of Psalms lately and made the comment this morning on how I just love that book and how it's like our life story. I'm really looking forward to meeting David when I get to heaven!
But, my 16 year old sister Grace wrote this powerful poem today that I just had to share. I read it and got tears in my eyes because of how true it is! Read it and take a peek into the lives of some lowly church that suffers a lot but still presses on! Praise God for His strength to live for Him.
"Traitors"
I can’t begin to explain
How much grief and how much pain
Our lowly church has been through.
Although we’re still the same,
People come and start to change.
We encourage them to press in,
And endure hardness unto the end,
But Satan starts to blind them,
And they’d much rather listen to him.
They fall for his lies.
The truth – they begin to despise.
They had a chance to advance,
But turning their heads, they took a second glance.
The good seemed so appealing.
So they left the best for a fake diamond ring.
They ran hard after the easy life,
But stirred up a rat’s nest and caused much strife.
Forgetting all the love they left behind,
All they know is their delusional mind.
After all the Bible studies, witnessing, and things we’d done together,
They just walk away without a single good word to say and live a double-life forever.
They’ll always have a guilty conscience with all the memories fresh on their mind.
Peace and joy they’ll never find.
Fakery, hypocrisy, and self-justification –
That’s all they live for now. Lukewarm Christianity is their new occupation.
Even though they knew of those who’d left us before,
“We’ll be with you to the end!” they’d always reassure.
But just like the rest,
They betrayed us with a “Judas Kiss.”
They won’t listen to reason – they don’t want to hear anymore.
The call to repentance is completely ignored.
What more can we do? We’ve done nothing wrong.
The book of Psalms is our life-long song.
So, we run all the more after our first love, Jesus.
He’s the only One that will never forsake us.
Thinking back still brings tears to our eyes,
But we have to press on to receive our prize.
Though Satan is still trying to bring us down,
By God’s grace we will fight until the finish line is found.
How can you trust anyone anymore?
All we have is our poor little church and Jesus Christ, our Lord.
But He’s enough, even if that’s all we’ve got.
He’s been through way more than we have and understands more than anyone on earth.
We will always love Him, and serve Him in any way we can.
Because in the end, only God’s perfect, spotless Bride will stand!
