Leaven?

Leave out the Leaven!

06/22 Daily Exhortation (Heb.3:13;10:25;Matt.6:11;Luke 11:3)

Ezra 6:22 (KJB)  And kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with joy: for the LORD had made them joyful, and turned the heart of the king of Assyria unto them, to strengthen their hands in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel.

Let’s glean some allegory from this passage. First off, Israel is a type of the church. Leaven is yeast and is universally ALWAYS (yes, even Matthew 13:33) a SYMBOL OF SIN. The New Testament church does not keep the feasts, though they are a shadow of THINGS TO COME (Col. 2 in the King James; new perversions 666 change this to “were a shadow” which denies the millennial return of the feasts, etc.). However, we should study them and glean their spiritual meanings. 

Let’s hone in on UNLEAVENED BREAD. Leaven is SIN. We need bread that is not sin-laden. We need the unleavened bread of a BIBLE without BLOT, spot, stain, etc. Morever, Jesus calls His body/the church BREAD. There is to be NO LEAVEN. Note in our focus passage the JOY that comes from purging out the leaven from our houses. 

1 Cor. 5:6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

Paul is saying to stop boasting when there is LEAVEN in the midst of the church. GET IT OUT! If you are in a church that refuses to get the leaven/sin out, THEN YOU BETTER GET OUT because it's NOT A CHURCH based on the New Testament model. 

Gal. 5:9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

Paul is warning that a little sin will permeate the entire local church.

When God gets rid of the leaven, REJOICE!!! God is strengthening your hand in the house of the Lord (church in type; 1 Tim. 3:15). 

Ex. 12:15 says to “put away leaven out of your houses.” “Put away” carries a strong DIVORCE connection in the Bible. DIVORCE IT. Get it FAR AWAY. 

Offerings were NOT to be made with leaven (Lev. 2:11). We must trust for God’s grace, Spirit, blood to cleanse us and to offering up ACCEPTABLE sacrifices of service to the Lord. 

Jesus warned of the leaven of denominationalism: 

Mt 16:6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

And Jesus warned of the leaven of Herod (political involvement, etc.): 

Mark 8:15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

1 Cor. 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us…

1Co 5:8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
